Harucon began in 2008 as an attempt to create a uniform name for Amai’s Purim conventions in Israel

Harucon 2018

The eleventh convention, happened in Jerusalem’s International Convention Center.

During this convention the Mangaka Katahira Yoshimi, who worked as an illustrator and manga artist for seven years in Japan, appeared as a guest. During which she shared her experience in the publication process of a manga title, and the lifestyle of those who work in the craft of manga.
Additionally, visitors who were present in the annual cosplay content also got a rare chance to win a flight to Japan, courtesy of the Japanese airline ANA.

Along with these attractions there were panels and lectures in various subjects.

Harucon 2017

The tenth convention, which occurred in Jerusalem’s International Convention Center.

In this convention were guest appearances of Furukawa Toshio, a well known Japanese voice actor, and the voice actor Ms. Kakinuma Shino, who participated in a Q&A panel and a panel on the subject of “The Soft Power Diplomacy of Japan and Anime”, guided by Dr. Nissim Otmazgin,.

As every year of the convention, a cosplay competition was held, along with panels and lectures regarding various subjects.

Harucon 2016

The ninth convention, held in Jerusalem’s International Convention Center.

The famous Japanese voice actor Toru Furuya was a guest of the convention, and participated in a Q&A panel along with a signing event.
Another guest of the convention was Mr. Yoram Yosefsberg, a Israeli voice actor, who also participated in the Q&A panel and shared experiences in the industry with Mr. Toru Furuya.

Two performances of the musical “Where Do We Sign?” were shown in the convention, along with the movie ‘Harmony’ by Studio 4°C.

Thanks to the special guest, the successful program and the hard work of the staff and volunteers, this convention reached an impressive record of 3,500 visitors.

Harucon 2015

The eighth convention, hosted for the first time in Jerusalem’s International Convention Center.

This convention was the largest yet in terms of events and content. The Musical “Two drops of blood” by the group R2 (HEB) was performed and you could find a large variety of events and activities such as:
“Everything You Wanted to Know About Animation”, “Ten Things To Know Before the Trip to Japan”, trivia, a convention wide game, a cosplay contest and more.

The convention was massively successful in terms of visitor numbers and the venue proved itself as a worthy place for future events.

Harucon 2014

The seventh convention, which was hosted in Rishon Letziyon’s Cultural Center.

In this convention the musical “Thank You for Choosing” of NTTMusical was performed, and the movie “Patema Inverted” was screened with translation provided by KAT group.

After the convention it was decided that a larger venue was needed for future conventions, as the cultural center could not support anymore the number of visitors the convention attracted.

Harucon 2013

The sixth convention, held in Rishon Letziyon’s Cultural Center.

In this convention the movies “Wolf Children” & “The Place Promised in Our Early Dreams” were shown with translation into Hebrew by KAT, both movies were massively popular in the convention.

In this convention you could find a variety of activities such as the lectures: ‘Legends in Anime & Cyberpunk’, workshops on cosplay and drawing, “Anon, who am I” and many other activities.

This Harucon convention had the largest amount of visitors of any Harucon convention at the time.

Harucon 2012

The fifth convention, which was hosted at Rishon Letziyon’s Cultural Center

This convention showed a premier of the movie “Children Who Chase Lost Voices”  translated by KAT, the movie was received with much excitement by the audience.
Along with the movie the convention presented a performance of the parody play “Quicky Manga”.

In this convention you could find a variety of activities such as:
Lectures regarding mythology and folklore as shown in manga, manga studies, a “Dub as Much as You Want” event – a dubbing workshop, meeting the Amai committee and many other activities.

Harucon 2011

The fourth convention, hosted for the first time in Rishon Letziyon’s cultural center.

The convention premiered the musical “And the Sushi Is Free”, an independent work, which was well received by the community.

In the convention you could find a variety of activities such as:
Lectures regarding the importance of soft power in Japanese tourism, ‘Translated manga – from coverage to the plate’, a workshop for designing and creating in Fimo & clay, screenings of anime and many other activities.

Harucon 2010

The third convention,  was hosted in the Wahl Center of Givat Shmuel.

The convention presented for the first time a message to the community by a Japanese voice actor known as Minoru Shiraishi.
The message was met with excitement and admiration by the community.

In this convention you could find a variety of activities such as:
Lectures regarding working with metal and building armor, a general coverage of production studios, a makeup workshop, anime screening and many other activities.

Harucon 2009

The second convention was at the Wahl Center of Givat Shmuel

The convention premiered for the first time the musical ‘Hellsing’, based on the title with the same name.
The musical was received with much excitement and interest by the community.

In this convention you could find a variety of activities such as:
Lectures about making a trip to Japan, Lolita Street fashion, World War II and its effect on animation & manga, anime screenings and many other activities.

Harucon 2008

The first convention, which was at the Smolarz Auditorium in The Tel Aviv University.
The convention continued the tradition of Purim conventions by keeping the current format.

The convention premiered the play “Full Metal Alchemist”, based on the title with the same name.
The musical was a breakthrough, being the first original production presented at a convention with much success in the community, which led to many more original works later on.

In this convention you could find a variety of activities such as:
Lectures about calligraphy, “Israeli-Japanese Relations Depend on Us, the Next Generation”, ‘Anime, Folklore and Everything in Between’, Ninjutsu demonstrations, anime screenings and many other activities.
